Mortal Kombat 1 is almost upon us, which means developer NetherRealm has started getting into the nitty gritty of what fans can expect from certain modes. Invasions is one of the new features coming to Mortal Kombat 1, a brand new single-player mode that functions similarly to modes in previous MK games such as Towers of Time and The Krypt.
It was previously explained that Invasions will be getting seasonal content throughout Mortal Kombat 1's lifespan, with each season bringing different fights and rewards for players to unlock. When you think of seasonal content nowadays, you usually think of additional monetization, as developers obviously need a bit of extra income in order to sustain free additional content. However, it seems like Invasions won't have any extra monetization.

This was confirmed in the latest episode of Kombast Kast, in which a few devs sat down to give us more details on a bunch of Mortal Kombat 1 features, including Invasions. Towards the end of the Invasions section, lead systems designer Derek Kirtzic was asked whether fans will be required to pay for Invasions each season, and whether the mode will have some kind of Battle Pass. Thankfully, the answer was a resounding no, as Kirtzic states Invasions will have "free content" and "passive reward structures" that give you stuff just for playing.
He also confirmed that Invasions will have zero microtransactions, and the mode will not offer players a way to pay to progress or unlock rewards. If you want to unlock something in Invasions, you'll have to do it the good ol' fashioned way by playing through the mode. There'll be plenty of incetive to do so as well, as Invasions
