It looks like Minecraft could finally be getting a native PS5 release, as several files have been spotted on the PlayStation Store's backend that indicate a current-gen version is coming soon.
For years now, Minecraft players on PlayStation have been begging for some kind of current-gen update that adds a native PS5 launcher, instead of having to use the creaky PS4 launcher that's stuck around since 2014. Considering the PC and Xbox Series versions of Minecraft have advanced features like ray-tracing, it's clear that the PlayStation version of Minecraft is a few steps behind and has been for some time.
Now that Microsoft has started partnering with PlayStation and bringing over some of its exclusive titles (like the excellent Hi-Fi Rush port that was released earlier this month), it seems that's about to change. As pointed out by Redditor the_andshrew on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, several Title IDs for the PS5 version of Minecraft have recently popped up on the PlayStation Store's backend.
Those title IDs (PPSA19638_00, PPSA19639_00, and PPSA19640_00) indicate that the PS5 version of Minecraft isn't too far from being released, as it's already being set up on the PlayStation Store and seems likely to be pushed soon. At the very least, it's clearly being worked on in some capacity by Mojang.
The reports of Minecraft's PS5 version popping up on the PlayStation Store's backend were also corroborated by Twitter user PlayStation Game Size, who is a reliable source for things that are being worked on behind the scenes for PSN. PlayStation Game Size simply posted a picture of Minecraft's key art with the caption "PS5 Version", confirming the reports made on Reddit.
It's not clear why Minecraft is suddenly getting a PS5 version, but it's likely linked to the fact that Microsoft and Sony are working closer than ever now that several of Xbox's exclusive games are coming over to other consoles .
