Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's Switch remake has kept in the beloved Fire Emblem Toad, despite previous trailers suggesting he had been removed.
Just like with Super Mario RPG's remake, one of the big questions surrounding Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's long-awaited Switch re-release is whether all of the content from the original game is going to be making a return or if it'll be tweaked. In Paper Mario's case, some of the content is actually pretty important, like Vivian's identity, but that hasn't stopped us from wondering about the little things too.
Perhaps the best example of a smaller Paper Mario detail that fans have been wondering about (no, not the noose) is the Fire Emblem Toad. In the original English release of The Thousand-Year Door (and not the Japanese version, strangely), a Toad could be encountered in Petalburg who, when talked to, would basically act as a walking advertisement for Fire Emblem on the Game Boy Advance.
When Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's remake was first announced, fans started to get worried about Fire Emblem Toad, as they weren't spotted in the footage of Petalburg where they were in the original release. Well, worry not true believers, as everyone's favourite corporate Toad is alive, well, and strangely stuck in the past. We stan a retro gamer, though.
As showcased by YouTube channel Nintenduo World, the Fire Emblem Toad can still be spotted and talked to in Petalburg. Doing so will net you the same conversation you had in the original game, with the Toad saying how great Fire Emblem is and how they've been playing a bunch of Game Boy Advance games lately. Yep, Fire Emblem Toad might have been remade, but they're the same as ever.
