If you own an “unauthorised” third party accessory for your Xbox then it’s about to become useless. Players using the devices now will see an “error 0x82d60002” message that informs them the device will no longer be useable on the console from November 12th, 2023.
Microsoft advise that you “return the accessory” and buy one that is authorised – not exactly helpful. Typically the authorised controllers are rather more expensive than the unauthorised devices, as you can see below.
From 12th November, the white controller will work, the black one will not.
A Microsoft spokesperson gave the following statement to Windows Central.
“Microsoft and other licensed Xbox hardware partners’ accessories are designed and manufactured with quality standards for performance, security, and safety. Unauthorized accessories can compromise the gaming experience on Xbox consoles (Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.) Players may receive a pop-up warning that their accessory is unauthorized. Eventually, the unauthorized accessory will be blocked from use to preserve the console gaming experience. Peripheral manufacturers such as Brook Gaming have taken to Twitter and confirmed that their products including the XB Fighting Board and Wingman XB 2 converter will no longer functioning, and others such as the Raslution Steering Wheel Adapter will have limited functionality.
