YouTube shared a statement with The Verge today that talks about how the company has “launched a global effort to urge viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium for an ad-free experience.” Although the change has not rolled out around the globe, it will soon do and make its way to all users around the world.
A YouTube spokesperson said the following,
The use of ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service. We’ve launched a global effort to urge viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium for an ad free experience. Ads support a diverse ecosystem of creators globally and allow billions to access their favorite content on YouTube.
The way YouTube is showing is that it starts displaying a message saying, "Ad blockers violate YouTube’s Term of Service." This message shows up in the video player and does not let you proceed until you allow ads by disabling the ad blocker.
If you still don't want to go through the experience with ads, the alternative that you have is to subscribe to Premium, which is going to cost you $13.99 a month or $139 annually in the U.S. You can even go for a family plan that allows you up to five members for $22.99 a month, or you can go for the student plan that is just $7.99 a month.
