In a blog post titled “The best is yet to come“, developer System Era announced they will be joining Devolver Digital as a first party studio. System Era is best known for its open world survival crafting title Astroneer. At the time of this post, Astroneer has nearly 100,000 user reviews on Steam with a 92% positive score.
According to the post, Devolver Digital almost became the publisher for Astroneer years ago. Despite that not coming to fruition, the two companies stayed in touch culminating in todays acquisition.
System Era assures fans that the company, brand, and team are not going anywhere as a result of the acquisition. The company plans to continue working on Astroneer, while also working on a new project they have already started on. For Astroneer in particular, there is already a roadmap through 2024.
This is one of those situations that just makes sense. A popular indie title like Astroneer is a great fit with Devolver Digital as a publisher. I have almost 100 hours in total in Astroneer over the years, playing several times with a couple friends. I’m excited to see the new project they talked about as well…hopefully we get some more news soon!
