There have been countless bits of mythology that have served as the basis for several interesting and successful games over the past, but not many have been used for puzzle-based adventure games, and the Tower of Babel story is one that hasn’t been used very often. That’s where Focus Entertainment and developers Rundisc come in with Chants of Sennaar, a stylish indie puzzle adventure game. First revealed last year and with a playable demo showcased earlier this year, it stands out as quite the unique take on the tale, one that also has a release date now that was revealed during today’s Indie World presentation.
The game sees you plating as the mysterious Traveler, one ho arrives at an ominous tower where no one speaks to each other. The Traveler has to decipher exactly what happened to the tower and its people in the past, what’s going on, and how they can eventually restore the Balance. Here, though, the trick to figuring out what’s happening actually involves having to decode a foreign language. As seen in the trailer below, players will have to decipher the meaning of various glyphs through various actions around them, allowing them to solve several puzzles and navigate a huge labyrinth. Chants of Sennaar arrives on September 5 for all major platforms, and should hopefully make for a nicely clever and challenging journey.
