Zoe Saldana has clarified her involvement in future MCU movies, saying she doesn't expect to come back to play Gamora again. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Saldana said she expects the Guardians series to continue, but she won't be part of it.
«I don't think this is the end for the Guardians. It is the end for me, for Gamora,» she said.
Saldana said she gave a speech after wrapping her scenes for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to the crew and specifically called out writer-director James Gunn for his «time and his patience and his guidance and his friendship.»
Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, said he expects to remain friends with his fellow Guardians castmates down the road. «I've done jobs where I've been so close to people, then the job ends and I just never see them again. And that happens. I don't think that'll happen with us.»
Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, has also shared his thoughts on saying goodbye to his character and the series. «I love him,» he said. «But there's a relief [that it's over]. It wasn't all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don't know if I want Drax to be my legacy--it's a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.»
Although the current iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to come to an end, the series could live on with a different cast. Gunn told Deadline in January, «This is the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians.»
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases in theaters on May 5 and is expected to put up worse numbers at the box office than the last movie.
