Guerrilla Games and PlayStation Studios today dropped updated sales figures for Horizon Forbidden West and the franchise as a whole.
It’s hard to believe, but Guerrilla Games is now 20 years old. Since the studio’s founding and acquisition by PlayStation, Guerrilla Games delighted owners on PS2, PS3, and PS4 with its technical prowess. The Killzone games were strong showcases for PlayStation hardware on top of being good games, but they remained niche in a market saturated with first-person shooters. Then, in 2017, Guerrilla release Horizon Zero Dawn. A third-person action game filled with color, mystery, and a strong protagonist, Horizon was a graphical showcase that cemented the studio as a top developer for PlayStation. Last year, Guerrilla Games released a sequel, Forbidden West, and it too has flourished.
Guerrilla Games has revealed that Horizon Forbidden West has sold over 8.4 million units worldwide. In total, the Horizon franchise has sold more than 32.7 million units worldwide, cementing it as one of PlayStation’s most valuable franchises. These numbers don’t include downloads made through subscription services like PlayStation Plus. A third Horizon game is likely in development, especially after Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores’ cliffhanger ending.
Horizon Forbidden West is available now on PS5 and PS4. It’s DLC expansion, Burning Shores, is also available now, but only on PS5. Horizon Zero Dawn is available on PS4 and PC as well as being playable on PS5 through backwards compatibility. Finally, Horizon Call of the Mountain is available now on PlayStation VR2.
