It’s only been three years since Daniel Craig's last hurrah as James Bond in No Time to Die, but rumors about his successor and what’s in the works for the next set of films have been swirling ever since. Unfortunately, the search for a new James Bond actor may not have progressed as fans hoped.
James Bond fans are throwing around several names regarding who they think would be the next 007. These actors include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Idris Elba, and even Henry Cavill, fresh off his latest spy thriller, the poorly-reviewedArgylle. This has led fans to be on the edge of their seats, waiting for confirmed news.
Unfortunately, they’ll have to wait some more after the disappointing update Barbara Broccoli, the producer of James Bond movies, recently gave. According to Deadline, at the event on Wednesday, which was held for Christopher Nolan's British Film Institute Fellowship Award ceremony, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was very excited about meeting Broccoli. On top of being a surprise warm-up speaker for the ceremony and making the attendees laugh, Sunak quipped about becoming the next Bond and even joked that he left his CV under her seat, proving that he's looking forward to updates just as much as the fans are. However, Broccoli said, “No, there’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film. There’s nothing. Nothing is happening yet.”
Even though Broccoli told the publication that nothing is in the works yet, they probed a bit further and asked if she had discussed plans for the next James Bond with director Denis Villeneuve, who was also in attendance. She avoided the question, stating she had to say goodnight to the Prime Minister. Villeneuve left the discussion about Bond on a more positive note by stating that the character is linked to his childhood and is “a charismatic figure he’s adored through the years.”
