Before you worry, you won't need to kill Commander Zhalk to get his sword; you just have someone ready to run in and take it from him.
According to CharlieIntel, the Everburn Blade is found in the last fight on the Nautiloid, but the process for getting it starts before that. First, players have torescue Shadowheart from her pod.
You can either unlock the pod with the key found in the next chamber or by using brute force.
Shadowheart, as the only caster you get before Act 1, can prepare the spell you need to cheese the Blade right out of Zhalk's hands. Once you have rescued Shadowheart in and she is officially in your party, hit "" (on PC) to open your spell book. From there, deselect any of Shadowheart's level one spellsandreplace them with the Command spell. This is the most essential part of your preparation, so complete it before you begin the fight on the Nautiloid's bridge.
From here, you can head past the room where you found Shadowheart, trigger the fight, and defeat the Hellboar between you and Commander Zhalk. On Shadowheart's turn, have her cast "" on Zhalk. However, there'sno guarantee that this will work on your first cast, so try to save as many of Shadowheart's limited spell slots as you can.
