Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Episode 1 – Fear is out now, and one of the key pieces of new content included is a new playable version of the Joker. That said, if you’re expecting to jump right in and play as the Clown Prince of Crime, you’re in for a rude awakening – he has to be unlocked, either by playing the game or by spending premium currency. We’re going to assume for now that you’d rather not spend real money to get your hands on Joker, so scroll on down for the in-game method for unlocking him…
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Episode 1 introduces “Fear Rank,” a new episodic-specific ranking system. You need to rank up to level 35 to get the Joker. This can be a bit of a grind, but you can speed things up a bit if you tackle the right missions.
Look for missions with a +2 or +1 beside them – this indicates they’ll provide more Fear Rank XP. After you’ve cleaned up all the +2 and +1 missions, hop into some of the new Episode 1 Incursion missions. A number of these, like the “Knock ‘em Dead” or “Imposter Syndrome” just require you to defeat a certain number of enemies, which you can do rather quickly if you’ve got a built up character. You’ll need to play through around 30 missions, with each one taking 5 minutes or less, so the entire grinding process can be completed in around 2 to 3 hours.
Once you hit Fear Rank 35, you can take on the “Rescue the Joker?” Mayhem mission, which involves taking on another Brainiac variant. Much like the first version of Brainiac was basically a tweaked version of the Flash fight, this one’s a tweaked version of the Green Lantern fight.
Beating Brainiac won’t immediately make Joker available. You have to return to the Hall of Justice and talk to Rick Flag to change your party makeup.
