It's official: mechs are in Helldivers 2. This is after players successfully liberated Tien Kwan, the planet that devs tasked fans with saving in order to unlock a new Stratagem.
The news that Tien Kwan has been liberated by the Helldivers comes alongside a peek at the new mechs in action. Officially called the Exo-45 Patriot Exosuit, the mech is absolutely huge and gives players access to what appears to be an inbuilt machine gun, as well as a rocket launcher.
The mech is live in the game now, ready to be called into battle. Players have already grabbed footage of the Exosuit in action, although some are finding it a little underwhelming, especially when it was hyped up so much ahead of time. This is a little frustrating, considering it's a level 25 unlock, but it's early days yet and might just take some getting used to. Either that, or we'll see it get buffed in the future.
With that being said, buffs and nerfs have been a touchy subject in the Helldivers community this week. A recent balance patch hasn't gone down well in the playerbase, as some say that it's sucked their enjoyment out of the game. A dev defended the move, but this comment was also met with backlash, as he said that the patch nerfed "the most brainless playstyles". He later apologised for these comments, having been met with hundreds of downvotes on Reddit.
Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt later said that the team is keeping an eye on player feedback, so if enough fans feel that changes should be made to the mechs, the devs will at least see these comments. Of course, these mechs have only just been deployed, so we should spend some time trying to get the best use out of them before saying they need sweeping changes.
In any case, it's been a busy week in Helldivers 2. A recent update also added meteor showers and fire tornadoes, so there's a lot more to contend with now than just bots and bugs. We'll have to see if our new mechs help us against these weather conditions, or if we're still better off
