The CEO of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, has said that he wants the game to go on "forever", even when the team eventually stops working on new updates.
It's been an undeniably rough month for Helldivers 2 thanks to PlayStation announcing that players on Steam would be required to sign in to PSN in order to play, leading to the game being delisted in several regions. Now that Sony has taken that requirement back, things are starting to look up for Helldivers 2, leaving some room to think about what's coming next in the Galactic War.
Even with the PSN sign-in requirement being made optional, that hasn't stopped some players from being worried about Helldivers 2's always-online state, with some expressing worry about it potentially being taken offline in the future. Although the past few weeks have taught us to be wary, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt has eased those concerns by saying he wants the game to go on "forever".
As reported by GamesRadar+, Pilestedt recently took part in a discussion on the game's official Discord page, where he was asked if players in regions where the game has been taken away from sale would lose access to the game if they already owned it. In response, Helldivers 2's CEO said that if they've bought the game, then they'll be able to play "forever".
That's a hopeful message, but one that was met with a bit of scepticism, as another player asked if Pilestedt really meant forever, or if it's just until the servers get shut down. He then said that it'll be playable "forever if I get to choose", which suggests that he's aware it's not completely his decision and could be something decided by PlayStation.
