The much rumoured remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics does exist, it’s claimed.
Bloomberg journalistJason Schreier claimed the game is in development in a thread on the Gaming Leaks and Rumours Reddit page.
The thread involved discussion about the credibility of frequent Atlus news leaker Midori, who recently revealed that they had been adopting a persona online.
The news led some to claim that this meant some of Midori’s leaks, including a recent claim that a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is being developed, may not be reliable.
“We finally got a Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster mention from a high tier leaker, and then a week later there is a chance the leaker is not as credible,” user BuyMyBeans wrote. “The torture never ends.”
Schreier then replied to the comment, saying: “Hi. The Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is real and happening.”
It’s been speculated for some time now that two unannounced Final Fantasy games planned for release are a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster and a remake of Final Fantasy 9, thanks to 2021’s huge leak of unannounced games on Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service.
Nvidia later confirmed that the list was real, but claimed that it was used only for internal testing and that the games listed don’t necessarily exist, but this hasn’t deterred speculation.
Final Fantasy Tactics was originally released on the PlayStation in Japan in 1997, and North America in 1998.
An updated version called Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions was released on the PSP in 2007, then ported to iOS in 2011 and Android in 2017, but it hasn’t been re-released on consoles since its original PS1 edition.
