While we’re in the thick of not-E3, it’s fair to say that the announcements are coming thick and fast. Amongst the minute by minute trailer drops, the fantastic-looking new hero shooter from Bad Guitar studio, FragPunk, immediately stood out to me amongst the other games appearing in the Xbox Showcase. Coming from publisher NetEase, this 5v5 competitive shooter has all the hallmarks of a multiplayer hit, especially if it plays as good as it looks.
First up, this is a console exclusive, coming to Xbox Series X|S as well as the mighty PC, so PlayStation fans will have to look over the wall at this one, at least for the moment. The trailer gives you a taste of the vibrant visual design, as well as a hefty dose of attitude that you’d expect from a game named FragPunk.
Set in a futuristic, hyper-stylised universe, players can use various cards to modify how they approach combat, unlocking special abilities and modifiers to keep things consistently fresh. Netease have also announced the first Closed Alpha Test on Steam, running from June 27 to July 1 for selected participants, focused this time on North America. Registration is now open for the closed alpha test at the game’s official site or by requesting access to join the playtest on Steam. Also, players around the world are invited to add the game to their wishlist on the Xbox, Windows Store and Steam.
