Insomniac Games, the PlayStation first-party studio behind the recent Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine, has been hacked, with sensitive information currently held hostage in a brazen digital heist.
Word comes to us from Cyber Daily (thanks, Eurogamer), which reports that a ransomware group named Rhysidia is claiming responsibility, providing proof-of-hack documents. This includes details on the in-development Wolverine, internal emails, files, personal documents like scans of employee passports, and who knows what else. One of the documents reportedly belongs to Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal, who should probably change his passwords as soon as possible.
Rhysida has set a seven-day deadline to pay the ransom before the group publishes its ill-gotten gains online. In case Sony doesn't want to play ball, Rhysida is putting the data up for auction, with the price starting at the princely sum of 50 bitcoins, worth around $2 million.
Sony has published a statement: «We are aware of reports that Insomniac Games has been the victim of a cyber security attack. We are currently investigating this situation. We have no reason to believe that any other SIE or Sony divisions have been impacted.»
