Finally, equal presence for all races: the female Hrothgar race has been unveiled for the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion, Dawntrail . Hrothgar women were showed off in their own gameplay video as part of the Fan Festival in Tokyo’s keynote, unveiling new information about the expansion and future content.
Canonically, Hrothgar women are described as fewer in number than their male counterparts. Despite this, they have a distinctive “predisposition for leadership.” The Fan Festival announcement also shares that Hrothgar have a Turali equivalent, Xbr’aal, as shown in the trailer and preview content so far.
The female Hrothgar were promised in the Endwalker reveal keynote during the 2021 Fan Festival online. However, fans were given zero other information about the development in the meantime, even throughout the post-expansion’s lifespan.
This is the last race (or half-race, really) that the team will be adding, as explained during that FanFest. Like Viera before, it was also a race that initially came with only one gender. Fan demand has been pretty high for the other sex for this one, with players using either Miqo’te or Hyur with in-game “fox” ears to represent such in the meantime.

Players had seen a hint of the race so far in FFXIV itself through post- Endwalker quests, as the same NPC in the trailer, “Vukla’mat” (not an official spelling so far, sorry), made an appearance in the latest 6.50 patch content. It’s explained that she’s the daughter of the leader of Tural, Dawntrail’s major region of exploration.
