Like many modern releases, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League put its short early access period behind a paywall. While the game fully launches on February 2, anyone who paid for the Deluxe Edition is meant to be able to play 72 hours early. However, that is not working in practice.
Just an hour into the early access launch in New Zealand, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was taken offline. Since the game requires a constant internet connection, this means that no one can play it right now, even if they've paid to be able to access it from today. Unsurprisingly, this has many calling on the devs to prioritise offline play, fearful that there will be more outages when the game goes live for everyone this week.
Suicide Squad was taken offline after players logged in to find that the game was already fully completed. Rocksteady was quick to take the servers offline for maintenance as it fixes this bug, but it's frustrating fans who were hoping to spend the day playing through the game.
Suicide Squad's requirement for a constant internet connection, even when playing offline, has been controversial from the start. It's already been confirmed that a future patch will let us play offline if we're not in multiplayer, but that doesn't help anyone right now.
To be able to participate in early access, fans would have had to pre-order the $100 Deluxe Edition. The Standard Edition, which unlocks the game on February 2, is available for $70. Early access is scheduled to start on January 30, hence why players with their region set to New Zealand were able to play for a bit until the servers were pulled. It remains to be seen if the devs can iron out the problem before early access is meant to go live in other regions. It was already supposed to open in Australia but hasn't due to the ongoing maintenance.
In the meantime, huge spoilers are being shared online already. If you're hoping to go in fresh, you might want to be careful on social media.
