The Pokémon Company has announced the next spin-off game in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, set to release for Nintendo Switch in 2025.
The trailer features a very 90s Hollywood take on virtual reality, with wireframe buildings and Pokémon running around a cityscape, interacting with one another. That leaves us with… questions…
“A new adventure awaits within Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon.”
That also leaves us with questions!
Mentioning an “urban redevelopment plan” makes this sound like a Pokémon themed city builder, doesn’t it? Well, of course this will is more background fluff for another regular Pokémon adventure. It’s been confirmed to take place entirely within Lumiose City, which was the Paris-like city within the France-like region of Kalos features in Pokémon X & Y, with the return of the fan-favourite Mega Evolution mechanic from those games as well.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus was the first game to spin-off from the mainline Pokémon series with this sub-branding, and that game heralded the shift to much more open world adventuring that we then saw continue through to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
