Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida, better known amongst the Final Fantasy community as Yoshi-P, made some interesting comments regarding Final Fantasy XVII when speaking to former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida on the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Game Maker’s Notebook podcast.
When asked if he’d be directing FFXVII, Yoshi-P answered that nothing has been decided on that front just yet. He then added, «That said, if I had to say something about that. I've had the chance to work on two of these, Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI, so maybe it's time for someone new, you know. Instead of having the same old guys handle the next one.”
Yoshi-P is best known for leading Final Fantasy XIV’s incredible turnaround from a troubled game to its current place as one of the most well regarded MMOs in the genre. Square Enix recently announced Dawntrail, the game’s fifth expansion, at this year’sFFXIV Fan Festival in Tokyo.
His success on that project paved the way for leading the development of the latest mainline single player entry in the series, Final Fantasy XVI, which released on the PlayStation 5 last year. A game that impressed us so much that we awarded it a 10/10 in our review.
