With the 2024 Toyko Fan Fest in the books, Final Fantasy 14 released Patch 6.55, Growing Light Part 2, which brought the story of the Endwalker expansion and several side quests to a close. In addition to the stories, Final Fantasy 14 made some changes specific to the PvP mode called Shatter and some Jobs were nerfed in Frontline mode.
Patch 6.55 arrived three months after the first half of Growing Light, which saw the Warrior of Light brave the Void and defeat Zeromus, the final boss of Final Fantasy 4. With the threat eliminated, the Warrior of Light and their allies returned home. But, the first glimpses of Final Fantasy 14's new update were teased. The lalafell character Krile Baldesion went over a letter from Tural addressed to her late grandfather, and the Viera gleaner named Erenville escorted a mysterious guest around Old Sharlayan. With new adventures looming, Patch 6.55 served to bridge the gap between Endwalker and Dawntrail.
Even though Dawntrail does not have a definitive release date at the time of writing, the main story of Patch 6.55 will bridge the gap. According to Square Enix, the 6.55 update will introduce Final Fantasy 14 players to Wuk Lamat, a female Hrothgar from Tural, and Erenville's aforementioned guest. In addition to the main story, Square Enix made some changes to the game's Frontline PvP mode. Some Jobs, such as the Dragoon and the Samurai, saw their damage nerfed in Frontline mode, and the «Shatter» map received significant changes to the spawn rates of its objectives. It remains to be seen how players will adjust to these Shatter and Frontline changes.
Patch 6.55 also brings the stories of the Loporrit, Omicron, and Arkasodara tribe quests to a head with a new Allied Tribe quest finale. Players will need to reach Bloodsworn rank with each Endwalker tribe before beginning this quest. Players will also experience the finale to the Island Sanctuary and Tataru's Grand Endeavor, both of which span multiple patches in Endwalker. Final Fantasy
