ASUS completely revamped the internal cooling system of the 2023 ROG Strix G16 by adding three fans to tame the powerful RTX 4060 GPU and the 14-core Intel Core i7-13650HX. Adding another fan always helps to improve thermals, but what is impressive about this configuration is that ASUS incorporated this solution without compromising the storage and RAM upgrades of the ROG Strix G16.
Despite including another fan, you still get two DDR5 RAM and two M.2 PCIe NVMe slots to populate in the future. Previously, even with a dual-fan solution, ASUS either soldered some memory to the motherboard or offered just one M.2 storage slot. Fortunately, this new approach is excellent, and what is even better is that you get a taller display without increasing the Strix G16’s overall footprint.
For $1,219.99 on Amazon, you get a 16-inch, 1920 x 1200 IPS LCD screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, which is ideal when running an RTX 4060 GPU with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Right off the bat, you get 16GB DDR5 RAM and 512GB storage, and as we mentioned above, both components can be upgraded. For a small performance uplift, ASUS has added a MUX switch to the ROG Strix G16, and the gaming laptop supports NVIDIA’s Advanced Optimus too. In simple terms, it means that switching from hybrid graphics mode to discrete mode does not require a system reboot, saving you ample time.
The battery is also a sizeable 90WHr cell that can be topped up using a USB-C power brick, but for the fastest wattage transfer, we recommend using the included charger with the barrel connector. At its lowest price of $1,219.99 on Amazon, the ASUS ROG Strix G16 exudes tons of value, and that is really saying something because the upgraded version of the exact same gaming laptop with an RTX 4070, Core i7- 13980HX and twice the available storage will set you back by $1,999.99 on Amazon.
That is more than a $700
