Ever since the launch of Destiny 2, and even in the original Destiny, players have been stuck with their characters' appearance, for better or for worse. If you made a mistake or wanted to change your character's looks down the line, you were out of luck, which is fairly uncommon in long-term games such as Destiny 2, that have you playing the same character for potentially multiple years. Thankfully, that is about to change.
Announced by Bungie in the first TWID post of 2024, the studio has revealed that character customization will be greatly expanded in an update that will be rolled out before the release of The Final Shape expansion this June. After almost a decade, players will finally be able to modify their Guardians whenever they like, and will be able to change body type, face, hair, head, and markings.
The only limitation to this is that players won't be able to swap origins, so no changing from a Human to an Exo, for example. Unfortunately, Bungie doesn't give us an exact date for when these new character customization options will drop, but at least we know they'll arrive in the next five months, assuming that The Final Shape doesn't get delayed again like it did last year.
No matter the reason, you'll be able to change your Guardian’s look when character customization goes live in an update before the release of The Final Shape. To do so, you'll only need to launch Destiny 2 and you'll notice a new option when you hover over a character at the character selection screen.
To prepare for the inevitable mob of people rushing to change their characters, Bungie has also announced that it will be resetting the Synthweave bounty cap in an update that will be rolled out at some point in March. The studio claims that this will give people even more options to customize their character when the feature goes live, so we can assume the options to change how your Guardian looks will drop around that time as well.
