Switch 2 Will Reportedly Be Backwards Compatibile With OG Switch Games

A reliable leaker has claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 (or Super Nintendo Switch, whatever you want to call it) will have backwards compatibility with OG Switch games, whether they're physical or digital.

For some time now, we've known that Nintendo is working on the console that will follow the Nintendo Switch and, after years of rumours and waiting, it seems very likely that it's finally going to reveal it to us at some point in 2024. Although we still have no idea when in the year we're going to be seeing it (although rumours point to it being March), some alleged details about the system are already leaking out.

Over on Twitter, CentroLeaks shared a post from reliable Nintendo leaker Universo Nintendo, (who correctly leaked the name of Sonic x Shadow and the date of the last Nintendo Direct, among other things) that seemingly reveals some new details about the successor to the Switch.

In the article, Universo Nintendo claims that, as reported by PH Brazil during a recent episode of the X do Controle podcast, the Switch 2 will allow for physical and digital backwards compatibility with games from the original Nintendo Switch. If true, this adds more evidence that the Switch successor will be using cartridges for its games.

That's not all though, as the rumour also claims that backwards compatibility won't just be a useful feature for consumers, as producers and developers will also be able to utilise the feature to "study improvements to the current titles in the Nintendo Switch library", which sounds like it'll allow them to make upgrades to games from the Nintendo Switch.

Universo Nintendo also says that X do Controle backed the recent rumours that Nintendo will be unveiling its next console in March, following a Nintendo Direct showcase this month. The rumour also claims that a Pokemon presentation is due this month as well.
