The gaming world is eager to get their hands on Nintendo’s next hardware, but it seems plans regarding the Switch 2 have been shifting behind the scenes. We recently heard rumors from numerous reliable sources that while the Switch 2 was originally slated for a late-2024 release, it has now slipped to Q1 2025, and it seems that may have a knock-on effect on how and when Nintendo reveals the hardware.
These latest rumors come from insider PH Brazil, who was the first one to report on the Switch 2’s slip to 2025 (and was later backed up by reliable outlets like Bloomberg and Video Games Chronicle). According to our insider, the Switch 2 will be revealed during the traditional E3 season in June. Keep in mind, the only thing Nintendo has actually confirmed is that they’ll be laying out future plans as part of their next earnings report in May, so the timing would make sense. Make a very broad, details-light mention of new hardware in May, then actually show us the hardware in June.
PH Brazil also provided some info about other upcoming Nintendo PR beats he’s heard about. We know a third-party-focused Nintendo Direct will happen this week, and our insider says that will be followed by an Indie World showcase in March and perhaps more of a general Nintendo Direct in April. If the latter happens, it will likely be where Nintendo shows off its last handful of games for the original Switch (fingers crossed for Metroid Prime 4).
Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt for now. Even if our insider has the goods, things could always shift further behind the scenes at Nintendo. Still, as somebody who follows and covers Nintendo extensively, everything laid out in this article makes sense to me.
What do you think? When will Nintendo give us that first real peek at the Switch 2? Does June sound like a solid bet or will we be seeing it earlier or later?
