The potential end of Nintendo's amiibo journey got one step closer this month via the release of the Noah and Mio Xenoblade two-pack. Accompanied by a re-release for Smash Ultimate's Shulk amiibo, Sora's figure, which will be released on February 16, will also be accompanied by a few relevant reprinted amiibo from the past. Turns out that won't be the end of amiibo, at least when it comes to re-releases, as Breath of the Wild's Guardian figure is returning.
GameStop's store listing still has the Guardian amiibo as out of stock, but there has been an update. A note revealing the Guardian will be re-released on March 8, 2024. Unlike the figures re-releasing alongside Noah, Mio, and Sora, there's no new amiibo - that we know of - arriving on the same day as that Guardian reprint.
If you want to let your imaginations run wild, and I'm sure many of you haven't waited for my permission to do that, the reprint might mean we're getting some sort of significant The Legend of Zelda news in March. Probably not a new Zelda amiibo - I feel like we would have been told about that by now if that were the case - but maybe something connected to the future of the Zelda series, maybe even news about the first Zelda game on the next Nintendo console.
The terrifying Guardians from The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have been turned into amiibo. Not so scary in figure form, these Guardians can actually be helpful if you tap them on your Switch while playing the game in which they appear.
That's all speculation for now. All we know for certain is there will be another chance to add the Guardian amiibo to your collection, and that Nintendo isn't done with amiibo just yet. I'd like to think the continued popularity of amiibo means they will continue to be made and sold on Nintendo's next console. However, it's almost impossible to predict what Nintendo is going to do next, and its decisions don't always seem to be driven by popularity, or even revenue, alone.
That there were no amiibo
