According to the developers at Heroic Games, 2023 marked a significant year for Ship of Heroes, bringing the game closer to its highly anticipated launch in 2024. In a lengthy blog post by the developers, the team has made significant progress last year, particularly in enhancing the game's performance, combat, and aesthetics.
The team at Heroic Games has been working towards launch, and as a testament to last year’s progress, they have pointed to the Steam Beta in October which they deemed a resounding success. Next Fest helped give the game some visibility, and Ship of Heroes saw some traction after players began adding it to their wishlists.
The technical advancements in Ship of Heroes in 2023 have spurred the games success during testing. A new, advanced server setup was introduced, including a multi-threaded chat system. This forms the core of the server launch system for the game. Moreover, the development team undertook a significant project to revamp combat animations, with the first batch already upgraded. The improvements extend to targeting and camera controls, meant to enhance the overall gameplay experience.
The character creation tool saw the addition of more costumes, hair models, and options, elevating it to one of the industry's best. The developers also introduced 114 preset heads in a mix-and-match format, allowing players to start with unique faces and then customize further. Alongside these enhancements, over 200 new NPCs were added, showcasing the game's advancements that they’ve made to textures.
