Gran Turismo Sport delisted from PS Store without warning

Gran Turismo Sport has been delisted from the PlayStation Store ahead of the racing game’s server shutdown at the end of this month. While the removal of online functionality was expected, and game currency had already been removed from sale, pulling the game from the PS Store has been done without formal notice notice from Sony or Polyphony Digital.

The online services of GT Sport will be removed at 6AM UTC on 31st January 2024, with add-on items from the PlayStation Store having been removed from sale on 1st December 2023. With so much of the game’s content set to become unavailable, it makes sense to remove the game itself from sale as well.

We’ve asked Sony for comment on the removal.

Naturally anyone that has already purchased the game digitally will still have access to the game, though the server shutdown will impact the features available in game.

With no online services, Polyphony stated that features including Community, Open Lobby, Sport Mode and using custom liveries will no longer work. However, “offline portions” of the game will still be accessible, and an FAQ on the shutdown stated that garage cars, career mode progression and access to world circuits will still remain.

However, the wording is such that there are some doubt over whether or not continued progression will be possible. GT Sport, as with its successor GT7, uses an online save system that requires an internet connection in order to make progress even in single player races. The FAQ regarding the shutdown suggests that this function will still remain, as it notes that “Gameplay progression required as normal to unlock additional cars and items”.
