There’s nothing better than a new game announcement – well maybe a new game release – but as we love to look to the horizon the latest title to appear on it is Dungeonborne, an extraction dungeon crawler made with Unreal Engine 5 and set in a gritty medieval world.
Dungeonborne is a first-person multiplayer title focused on PvPvE. You’re going to be searching for treasure and loot while delving further into deep underground mazes packed with enemies who want to stop your shenanigans. Besides that there’s extraction. If you’ve not come across extraction modes before they generally task you with trying to escape from an area in a set time. That might see you running from a terrifying beast or cloying deadly gas, carrying a specific item, or guiding an NPC to the exit, and if it’s done well it’s the kind of mode to have you and your teammates on the edge of your seat. It should mean that Dungeonborne is plenty of adrenaline-fuelled fun when it releases.
We’ve also been promised an increased range of player classes, beyond your traditional warrior/wizard/rogue specs, so that could be interesting to see in action. I love a fantasy setting, but it’s not often you come across too much originality – curse Tolkien and his creations! Dungeonborne’s characters will include those specced out for crowd control, stuns and/or pure DPS output, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to see quite what that really means.
There are also going to be additional gameplay systems such as flasks & potions, an in-game auction house and environmental combat, and with Unreal Engine 5 powering it, things should look pretty darn good as well. It looks as though there’s going to be a healthy range of enemies to whale on, and the trailer showcases skeletons, knights and giant cyclops to remove from your way.
You won’t have to wait too long to find out just how good Dungeonborne looks and plays, with an initial open alpha due to arrive in the coming months. Stay tuned to TheSixthAxis for more!
