Final Fantasy 16's combat director is Ryoto Suzuki, who previously worked on Devil May Cry 5 and Dragon's Dogma which reportedly shines through, but for those who aren't adept at that fast-paced style of action, it can be quite daunting and overwhelming. It was previously confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 would have a story-focused or action-focused mode, but no genuine difficulty levels. However, recent previews show that there is a selection of accessibility items instead of difficulty options.
Media were able to attend a hands-on preview of Final Fantasy 16 in Japan for a two-hour demo featuring a trio of boss battles, including one as Clive against the dominant of the Eikon Garuda Benedikta Harman and another as the Eikon Ifrit vs. Garuda. All in all, IGN seems very impressed with the combat, saying that «each swing» made it apparent that Suzuki was in charge of the combat.

Instead of difficulty options for this combat though, players are able to equip certain rings that make Final Fantasy 16 combat easier. There are a total of five rings, but only two can be equipped at a time, as otherwise players wouldn't have to really do anything. These items will change how players engage with the combat, such as The Ring of Time Focus that slows time when attacked and gives more time to react and dodge. All in all, there is a survivability element to these rings that should make Final Fantasy 16 combat much easier, without a dedicated easy mode. It's not enough to say if it's enough to help everyone who struggles with it quite yet, but that's something that may not be fully discovered until launch.
