Final Fantasy 14 has officially begun its open beta for the Xbox Series X|S version. New players can download the free trial of Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox and start their journeys in Eorzea and beyond right now.
In addition to the announcement of the Dawntrail expansion, the critically acclaimed MMORPG revealed that Final Fantasy 14 was coming to Xbox Series X|S at last year's inaugural Fan Festival. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, even made a guest appearance on stage to announce the big news.
Now, the open beta for Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox Series X|S has officially begun. New fans can follow the official guidelines posted by FF14 to install the expansive free trial on the console right now, but existing players wishing to switch to Xbox will have to wait until the full launch due to an account-linking requirement. The full platform release will commence immediately after the beta’s conclusion, and all characters and data from it will be preserved, so in many ways, the Final Fantasy 14 Xbox open beta can be considered a soft launch for new players.
The Xbox Series X|S open beta includes the free trial of Final Fantasy 14, which was recently extended to include the Stormblood expansion. This gives fans access to most playable races and jobs, as well as content from A Realm Reborn and the first two expansion packs. Once the full game launches, Xbox players will need a Game Pass subscription, but can otherwise continue to use the free trial for as long as they want, though they will need to purchase Final Fantasy 14 and a subscription in order to access content from Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail.
In addition to the normal restrictions on the Final Fantasy 14 free trial, Xbox beta players won’t be able to make purchases from the cash shop. Additionally, fans can’t participate in certain in-game activities that require the full game, such as the returning Final Fantasy 15 collaboration or Ultimate raids.
