The first big update for Dragon's Dogma 2 has landed, with Capcom having promised a slew of improvements earlier in the week. Patch 1.050 is available to download now on PS5, weighing in at 515MB.
This one's all about graphics options, really. The game launched with no way to adjust visuals and performance on consoles, but it now offers toggles for motion blur and ray tracing. In theory, disabling something like ray tracing should help the title maintain a more stable frame rate, but Capcom says such an improvement won't be «significant». We'll need to do some testing, then.
The update also lets you cap said frame rate at 30 frames-per-second. Previously, the frame rate was uncapped, meaning that it could fluctuate all the way to 60fps. Assuming this mode actually keeps the frame rate closer to 30, then it might be preferable for some players.
Some welcome gameplay improvements are included as well. The option to simply start a new game is now present on the main menu, and the item that lets you fully customise you and your pawn's appearance has been made much more available.

Again, Capcom says that specific frame rate improvements are «planned for future updates». Hopefully they're not too far off.

Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, he's played 'em all — a little too much, some might say.
Turned off motion blur as I don't like it in any game and I also turned Ray tracing off too and I actually think the game looks better with it off. I haven't noticed a huge difference in performance to be honest but I'm playing in the capped 30fps just for consistency purposes
