Three relatively big games all released on the same day last week: Dragon's Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, and Princess Peach: Showtime!. But as we all know, Japan absolutely adores its Nintendo Switch exclusives — and so perhaps it's no huge surprise to see the latter title top the latest charts.
To be fair, there wasn't a big gap between the three games. Dragon's Dogma 2 came in second at 69,000 sales — roughly 10,000 behind Peach — and Rise of the Ronin managed third with 65,000 sales. Given how close together the numbers are, there's maybe an argument to be made that they cannibalised one another.
In any case, these are merely decent figures. As always, it's important to note that these charts only count physical sales — but no one would blame you for thinking heavily marketed releases like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin should be doing a bit better for themselves.
Elsewhere, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth remains in the top ten, but with sales still slipping — it sold just 7,100 units last week — it's only a matter of time until it's gone. Unicorn Overlord couldn't maintain its position, either.
Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, he's played 'em all — a little too much, some might say.
At this point… ok.
Japan still plays video games?
Makes it sound like Princess Peach would beat the crap out of the protagonist of both games. Which is true.
Forget all that...the 2DS is killing it this week!
