We all know that there has been a serious issue in gaming lately regarding games being ported to PC and not being optimized to their fullest. In fact, multiple AAA titles, both ports and new games, have had this issue despite coming from quality developers. Gamers are frustrated by this as PC gaming is one of the most popular gaming methods out there, and yet, they’re the ones left holding the bag when a developer decides not to put their all into a PC port. Sadly, it appears that Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart may suffer those same issues.
The word of this comes from Digital Foundry, who went into the game on PC and tested it at its lowest settings and found that while the game performed “well enough” and that you could “still tell it was the game in question,” that it didn’t have the same level of detail and flawlessness of the PS5 original:
“The difference between the console experience and the ‘very low’ setting is frankly immense in terms of data transfer. You’ll witness the carnage of what happens when you try to run Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart on a launch PS4 512GB HDD – even the very low setting doesn’t work and the game eventually crashes.”
There are a few ironies to this, not the least is that a member of Insomniac Games popped onto Twitter to quote a video dropped by Digital Foundry with the phrase, “As We Said,” regarding the above message. The second is that the PC port of the game was said by Insomniac Games to “work well” on PC despite not having the PS5 Solid State Drive that allowed them to do certain features on the console.
So are we almost at the point where we can start railing against Insomniac and the port team at Nixxes for not making the PC version of the game worthy? Not quite. Remember, Digital
