Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart finally came to PC this week, bringing the title to another platform other than the PS5 for the first time. First impressions from fans and critics alike is that it's another quality port from PlayStation studio Nixxes, but an announcement from developer Insomniac Games earlier this week that claimed you won't need an SSD to run the game caused a bit of a stir.
Prior to release, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was marketed as one of the first PS5 games that would truly showcase the power of the console. Its PS5 exclusivity was apparently due to the console's fancy SSD, as the game's rift mechanics were too advanced and complex for the PS4 to handle. Now that Rift Apart can be played on a range of hardware thanks to its PC port, hardware publication Digital Foundry decided to see if Insomniac's claims were true and tested the game out on a base PS4's HDD (thanks VGC).

You probably won't be too surprised to hear that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart does indeed struggle a great deal, the video of which you can view down below, which was shared by Digital Foundry journalist John Linneman. Right from the get go you can see the game stuttering as Ratchet walks around the world, but things take a turn for the worse when he enters a rift, as the game freezes for a solid minute while it loads the next area, all the while poor Ratchet is left dangling inbetween dimensions.
