Battlefield 2042 came out in 2021, and to say the community received it poorly would be quite an understatement. We'll admit to bouncing back then, never to return, but it seems EA has clawed back some goodwill in the intervening years: the developer has told fans to «tune in» on Monday (today) for more information about the upcoming Battlefield community testing program it plans to employ for the still-unnamed next entry in the series.
On X, EA announced the news via the official Battlefield account, which quickly went viral. More surprising, at least from our jaded, detached perspective, is the level of hype this announcement caused in the comments. Gamers, it seems, crave a return to the Battlefield franchise.
As is tradition, the nebulous piece of concept art accompanying the announcement has come under intense scrutiny as fans search for any scrap of information. It's believed that at least some of the action will occur in Gibraltar, Spain. Still, eagle-eyes have already noted that this new image bears Arabic characters and graffiti in the background, which, in addition to using what appears to be a real-life explosion from Gaza as a reference, suggests a Middle Eastern setting.
Seemingly innocuous asset again under scrutiny
The real battle begins
