Public 64-bit server worlds for Lord of the Rings Online are opening soon, and Standing Stone Games wants you to be ready to join the move. In a new post, the devs outline in more definite, written, and brief terms what players need to know for the upcoming move, including a cut-off date and asset transfer details.
Right now, LOTRO's 64-bit servers are only available for VIP players, with only one server available in NA and EU each, so players are keeping their eye on this new launch. The fact that Standing Stone Games might know a real date is teased in this new post, but they don’t actually give it yet.
In the past, Standing Stone Games has gone over the perks and initial features of the 64-bit servers. NA and EU will each get two servers, respectively one sword-named one for regular gameplay and one Hobbit-named one for RP-focused gameplay.
In that same stream, they also went over initial plans for transfers and the like. Now, this post gives a little bit more of a solid confirmation as to what’s happening.
The general-use 64-bit LOTRO server launch and transfers will happen in waves. First, VIP subscribers will be able to make their names for these servers. On a date after, players will be able to transfer characters from 32-bit to 64-bit servers for free.
Once the gates open to the 64-bit servers, players will continue to be able to transfer until August 25, 2025—so chances are that the worlds will open at least sometime before then. That also means you know when you need to get back into your account by to get in on this free transfer, so mark your calendars (for sooner, preferably).
At another unspecified date, devs will open transfers for characters from defunct game worlds, though details are sparse on that for now.
