Baldur's Gate 3 gets a lot of features right, but for many, the dyeing mechanic isn't one of them. Right now, it's a slow and unintuitive process, as you need to find whatever dye you want to use, hit the "combine" option, and then scroll through your inventory once more to find whatever it is you want to change the colour of. There's no way to preview the results, so if you don't like it, you have to try all over again.
Thankfully, a player has come to the rescue with an unofficial fix. A new mod for Baldur's Gate 3 speeds up the dyeing mechanics and makes finding them in the inventory much easier. Better yet, it also makes all dyes reusable, so if you don't like the look of something, you haven't just wasted an entire bottle of the stuff. The game won't take you out of the combine menu as soon as it's done either, letting you easily colour a new item with the same dye.
Slightly Better Dyeing by Nexus Mods user Caites does exactly what the name suggests. With the mod, dyeing a bunch of items at once is actually possible, all without having to find the exact dye you used all over again after every use. But even so, finding the dye in your inventory should be much easier now too, since they have a little paintbrush icon next to them when they're in your pack. It should help you avoid the mistake I keep making - clicking on a portion, thinking that it's a dye.
First shared on Nexus Mods last week, Slightly Better Dyeing already has more than 10,000 downloads, so it's fair to say that the playerbase is getting some use out of it.
