AMD has added new patches and support for its upcoming RDNA 4 & RDNA 3+ GPUs within the latest Linux graphics drivers.
AMD's work towards support for future products on Linux has massively ramped up, especially towards their upcoming RDNA 4 & RDNA 3+ graphics architectures. The firm adopts the IP blocks approach, and from the looks of it, the development is still in progress. Based on this readiness, we are expected to see optimal support at launch for next-gen GPUs.
Phoronix reports that AMD has rolled out huge AMDGPU and AMDKFD kernel driver patches which bring several additions, slated to merge ahead of Linux 6.10. The new features include upgrades to the IP blocks targeted towards RDNA 3+ and RDNA 4 GPU architectures, showing that Team Red is active when enabling next-gen products. With this massive chunk of driver patches, AMD is ready to take Linux support to an all-time high, giving competition to alternatives like MESA's RADV Vulkan driver, which is the far better choice & has witnessed tremendous interest over the past few years due to its more open-source nature.
