Helldivers 2 lead Johan Pilestedt has given us our first look at an upcoming cape - one which references the most controversial moment in the game's short history. As we can see in the screenshot, the red lines on the cape mirror the review bombing Helldivers 2 received on Steam last week, as thousands of players hit the game with negative ratings.
The review bombing was in response to the announcement that Helldivers 2 would require players on PC to also have a PSN account. Not only did this frustrate those who didn't want to make another account, but it also meant Helldivers 2 would be completely unplayable in regions without PSN. In response to the overwhelmingly negative feedback, the decision was reversed - something that developer Arrowhead is looking to commemorate.
Pilestedt's screenshot doesn't give us a look at the whole cape, but those red lines are certainly very familiar if you've been following the Helldivers 2 drama. It goes to show that the Helldivers 2 devs are taking this in good faith, especially since the negative reviews convinced Sony to drop the PSN requirements in the end.
There's no word on when the cape will be with us, but judging from what we've seen so far, it looks like it's ready to go. Updates to the game are incredibly frequent, so it's possible that it will be with us sooner rather than later.
Despite the controversy, Sony is still going ahead with its plans to make PSN a requirement to play Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut online. This has also resulted in the game being delisted in more than 150 countries .
With that being said, Arrowhead might want to wrap up the PSN saga before it releases the commemorative cape. While the update that makes PSN mandatory isn't being rolled out anymore, the game was already delisted in 177 countries (now 180) ahead of the change. We're still waiting for this to be reversed, although Pilestedt has previously commented that the team "won't rest" until it's playable everywhere once again.
