WWE 2K24 is bringing back the infamous ECW promotion for its MyGM mode. Extreme Championship Wrestling was created in 1992 as a competitor to both the World Wrestling Federation (as WWE was once known) and World Championship Wrestling, and set itself apart with a roster of future WWE 2K24 superstars and a more hardcore style of wrestling that saw competitors strike each other with weapons as often as punches and holds. WWE would start a revamped version of ECW as a third brand in 2006, but this would eventually end in 2010, with NXT taking its place two years later.
The original ECW remains highly regarded among wrestling fans, with many of its premiere stars going on to have legendary careers in WWE, including WWE 2K22 cover star Rey Mysterio. Two ECW video games were released by Acclaim Entertainment in 2000, and the WWE relaunch was featured in numerous Smackdown vs. Raw installments until its eventual end. When it comes to the more recent WWE 2K installments, players have kept the memory of ECW alive by recreating classic versions of its biggest wrestlers using WWE 2K23’s character creation suite.
Now players might be able to resurrect ECW outright, as the WWE 2K24 website suggests that the long-defunct promotion will be included in this year’s MyGM mode. In the section dedicated to MyGM mode, an image of Tyler Breeze in front of the old ECW logo is featured, all but confirming that it will be one of the available brands players can choose in WWE 2K24's MyGM mode alongside Raw, Smackdown, NXT, NXT 2.0, and WCW.
