Fortnite developer Epic Games has revealed a new season of the game will be built and developed entirely in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). This new season of Fortnite is expected to launch in 2025 and marks a first for the massive multiplayer battle royale.
Since its initial release in 2017, Epic Games has successfully forged Fortnite into one of the world's most popular video games, with special events like Fortnite OG reaching well over 40 million concurrent players. Fortnite is made fresh thanks to a consistent wave of new content, ranging from item and weapon balancing to completely new maps and locations for players to explore. Fortnite's newest season, Chapter 5 Season 2, launched on March 8 and will last through May 24, giving players a lengthy amount of time to snag all of the goodies that are part of the new season's Battle Pass.
During the State of Unreal 2024 presentation, Epic Games announced a ton of new and exciting features will be added to Fortnite in the coming months and years, as reported by IGN. One of the largest announcements from Epic Games revealed that a new season of Fortnite will be created entirely using the game's Unreal Editor tools. This robust level editor is available to players now, promoting even more creativity within the community.
Epic Games claimed that the new Fortnite season would ship «by the end of 2025.» Fans also got confirmation that the long-rumored Fortnite first-person mode will be coming to the game thanks to UEFN sometime this year. Other useful features were announced for UEFN, like the ability to follow creators. UEFN, along with Unreal Engine 5, has allowed Fortnite to become more than just a battle royal, turning the game into a platform to launch other experiences on top of. In recent updates, several new game modes have launched within Fortnite, like Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival. Fortnite also features a deep LEGO mode for players to test their survival and crafting skills.
