Final Fantasy 14 players are logging into the MMO to find that their characters have gotten a makeover, thanks to the Dawntrail benchmark. This optional update lets you see if your system is able to run the upcoming expansion but also lets you preview some of the graphical overhauls that are coming alongside Dawntrail.
So far, it looks like the long-awaited graphical overhaul is a hit. Many fans are sharing the new look for their characters online, and are very pleased with the results. On the whole, everyone looks a lot more detailed, with lighting improvements also helping to upgrade the overall character model appearance.
Some players are having to play around in the character customiser to get them looking how they imagined, but on the whole, it seems like most are happy with the graphical overhaul.
The benchmark also lets you play as a female Hrothgar for the first time, and they're going down a treat too. In fact, some are finding it difficult to resist the urge to play as one, ditching their current characters.
If you're interested in trying out the Dawntrail benchmark, you can check out our guide on how to install it here. However, this is only available to those on PC right now, since the whole purpose of it is making sure your system is able to handle the full Dawntrail expansion when it drops on July 2. Obviously, it will run fine on the console platforms it's launching on, so there's no need for the devs to roll this out there.
Dawntrail will be the first expansion to launch on an Xbox platform since Final Fantasy 14 was only just ported to Xbox Series X/S recently. Otherwise, you'll be able to play it on PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. And if the absolute state that preorders were in last month is anything to go by, this is going to be a very popular expansion for the MMO.
