Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is getting a free, two-part update called The Traitor Curse, developer Fatshark has announced.
Part one of the update arrives in November 2023 while part two arrives in December, sometime "before the winter holidays," Fatshark said. Nothing more specific was given, but The Traitor Curse is being released in celebration of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide's first anniversary, which is November 30.
Part one includes a new cinematic about the motivations of the Moebian 6th and also introduces players to The Carnival, a new disreputable zone promising transgressive distractions and entertainment. Fans can also get a brief glimpse at this new area in a trailer.
The Carnival zone and a new mission naturally comes in part one too, with players able to "strike at the heart of the Moebian 6th operations and fend off hordes of enemies in Mercantile," according to Fatshark.
The ability to inspect player loadouts in the Mourningstar is being added in part one, alongside an update to the veteran talent tree. "Enjoy many changes and tweaks made to the veteran tree, including the addition of Keystones," Fatshark said. "Due to these changes, veterans will see their talent tree reset and players will have to re-assign talent points."
The developer didn't share what's coming in the December update, but will likely reveal the details once part one is made available.
In our 8/10 review, IGN said: "Performance issues aside, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide's ferocious battles make for some of the most thrilling co-op action in years."
The game arrived on Xbox in October 2023 and was immediately made available on Game Pass, letting members sample the four-player co-op action at no additional cost.
