If there’s a series that is crying out for a spot of survival horror-type action, it’s the Jurassic Park franchise. As if the universe has finally heard these pleas, The Game Awards played host to the reveal of an all-new Jurassic Park game, set during the original film’s timeline, where you have to try to survive alone on Isla Nublar. Except you’re not alone, as you’ll be surrounded by a host of dino-friends who all want to get to know you eat you. The game? Jurassic Park: Survival.
Jurassic Park: Survival is a first-person survival – who’d have thunk it? – action-adventure game, where you take on the role of Dr. Maya Joshi, a down-on-their-luck researcher who’s managed to literally miss the boat, and is seemingly the only remaining human left on Isla Nublar.
Now, that’s undoubtedly going to lead to a number of problems, first of which is the wildlife. The trailer shows us some of the most iconic creatures from the movie, including Dilophosaurus, a hint of Velociraptor, and the ‘hero’ of the series, the T-Rex, fresh from his roaring duties inside the visitor’s centre, and they’re all out to chase down our new hero.
We briefly see some action-packed escapes from these critters, as well as lots and lots of rain. Slippy floors are not what you need when there’s a dinosaur breathing down your neck.
There’s some comparisons to be made here with game’s like Ark: Survival Ascended, not least because it feels as though we’re going to have to craft our way through this adventure, finding ways to stay alive beyond the things with lots of teeth.
Jurassic Park: Survival will release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and indeed S, at some point in the future. Here’s hoping we don’t have too long to wait!
