The Souls-like adaptation of Journey to the West, Black Myth: Wukong will release on 20th August 2024 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Check out the latest action-packed trailer.

Black Myth: Wukong is inspired by the 16th century Chinese novel “Journey to The West” by Wu Cheng’en. This has been adapted and twisted into a Souls-like, as we’ve seen in recent times with other myths, like Lies of P and the Pinocchio story.

This game is built on Unreal Engine 5, and the trailer looks pretty darned spiffy, with some epic enemies to fight and impressive environments. I also love the character and creature designs, which seems to lean into the weirdness of centuries old art that would often accompany mythological tales.

We’re definitely keen to see how this game comes together, and hopefully developer Game Science can stick to that release date.
