Walt Disney Sees “Huge Potential” in Gaming Following Success of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor

Walt Disney, the current owner of the Star Wars franchise, has expressed seeing huge potential in gaming following the initial success of EA's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Respawn Entertainment's sequel to 2019's Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order has been doing quite well with the game quickly becoming the second-biggest launch of the year in the UK, and sales of the sequel being roughly 30% higher in the UK than its predecessor. The game didn't only perform well in the UK and also topped the Circana/NPD US sales last month. From the looks of it, the success of the game hasn't gone unnoticed as Lucasfilm Ltd. owner Walt Disney with Chairmain Josh D'Amaro talking about "great" results from the gaming side, thereby mentioning Jedi Survivor, during the annual J.P. Morgan Technology, Media and Communications investor event for the technology, media and communications industries in The Westin Copley Place, Boston Massachusetts (via Seeking Alpha).

"And then on the game side, again, with such strong IP, we work with best-in-class game developers, and we're seeing great results from the gaming side of our business as well", the Disney Chairman told investors.

The executive added that he sees great potential in Disney's gaming side. "We just launched a new game called Star Wars Jedi Survivor. I'd like to tinker around with these new games when they come out. It's highly, highly rated, said to be one of the best Star Wars games in 20 years. So that business is doing well for us. And I think as the world continues to evolve and we see more gamers spending more time with their consoles and online, we have a huge opportunity here."
