Location-Based (LoBa) games have become a popular way for you to get some exercise while also leveling up your virtual character. In WalkScape, an indie mobile game by developer Not A Cult, and modeled after Old School RuneScape, players won’t be slapping away at their screens as much as they’ll walk their way to victory.
If you’ve been looking for a new way to get in some steps while slaying some beasts, WalkScape might be just up your alley. Unlike LoBa games like Pokemon Go, where you are isn’t as important as where you’re going. In WalkScape your pixelated hero will have plenty of hurdles, with quests, skills, and a global marketplace to participate in. However, if you want to make headway in leveling up, you’re going to need to hit the road and walk yourself to victory.
WalkScape is an idle mobile game, for the most part, where you’ll mostly take on the role of menu management, selecting tasks and dictating what you want to happen, but nothing can be done without your valuable steps. By walking you’ll progress your crafting bar, unlock achievements, and level up. Of course, you don’t always have to be walking with purpose, as the game can be set to progress your actions by going about your daily routine, walking around your home, during work, or around the grocery store.
Currently the game is shooting for a release date of the end of 2023 or early 2024, with beta heading to potential players soon. The initial plan for WalkScape’s monetization will be a free mode with an optional subscription, as the developers have stated they are strictly against any pay to win options.
