Upon its launch in February, Helldivers 2 got off to a better start than almost anyone could have expected, attracting players on both PS5 and PC in droves and selling at a faster pace than even Sony would have anticipated. Two months on from its release, the co-op shooter is continuing to maintain momentum in impressive fashion.
As per SteamDB, on Sunday, April 7, Helldivers 2 peaked at 345,188 concurrent players on Steam, the highest number it’s seen in roughly three weeks, while at the time of writing, it’s being played concurrently by over 157,000 players. Meanwhile, over on Steam’s top seller charts, Helldivers 2 is currently the highest selling paid title, sitting at No. 2 overall in the charts, behind the free-to-play Counter-Strike 2.
Games maintaining their impressive sales and player numbers two months on from release isn’t something we see too often, even if the game in question is a live service title. It helps, of course, that Helldivers 2 has done an excellent job of keeping players engaged with its live operations, whether that’s through new content and feature additions, ongoing storytelling, or more.
February was a stellar month for Helldivers 2, which emerged as the best-selling game of the month in both the US and the UK, as well as the most downloaded PS5 game on PlayStation Plus. The co-op shooter’s all-time concurrent users peak on Steam also sits at over 458,000, the 20th highest any game has ever seen on the platform.
Helldivers 2 was also the best-selling game in the UK in March, and is currently outpacing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s sales in the region. Sony has yet to announce official sales figures for the multiplayer shooter, but analysts estimated close to a month ago that it had sold over 8 million units.
Helldivers 2 is available on PS5 and PC.
